Your Questions Answered: Silo Springs Ranch at the Perry Farmers’ Market

Every Saturday morning, you will find me at the Perry Farmers’ Market in downtown Perry, Georgia. It is one of the best days of the week, because I get to see everyone, answer your questions, and send you home with pasture-raised beef, chicken, and pork raised right here in middle Georgia. Over the years, I’ve noticed some of the same questions popping up, so I figured a few might want to know, but don’t ask. Here’s a little guide to help you know what to expect on our farmers’ market Saturdays.

Are you at the market every Saturday?
Yes, we absolutely try to be! Perry was the very first place we sold beef, and it feels like home to us. While it’s just the two of us running things, if we can’t make it one week, we’ll always post on Facebook and if we know in advance, we’ll put it on the website too. You’re always welcome to call or text to double-check where we will be.

What if it’s raining?
We are rain or shine! Our beef trailer has enough room to rearrange things so you can step inside to order without getting soaked on those rainy days. The only time we pack up is if there’s thunder or lightning; it’s just too dangerous. If the weather ever gets in the way, you can still order online, by Facebook message, or even do a quick “drive-by” pickup.

Where is Arlin?
While I’m in Perry, Arlin is back at our General Store in Culloden. The store is open 10 AM–6 PM on Saturday, while the market runs 9 AM–1 PM, so after the market, I drive up and join him there. If you’d like to visit, just put “Silo Springs Ranch General Store” into your map app. It’s a straight shot up Hwy 341, about 40 minutes away from our spot at the Perry Market.

How do I order at the market?
Just walk up! We keep it simple: our menu is on the table, and I load the freezers as full as I can before I leave. We usually have over 5 cows’ worth of beef, plus chicken, plus about half a hog. We’re so grateful to Perry that I’ve graduated from bringing a small trailer to hauling our big beef trailer every weekend.

Are the cows really yours?
Yes, they are! It’s rare these days to know your rancher, so we don’t mind the question at all.

Did you make the sauces and jams?
Nope! Ranching keeps us busy enough, but we work with wonderful friends here in Middle Georgia who have a commercial kitchen. They create incredible all-natural sauces and jams using simple ingredients, and we're delighted to carry them for you.

Do you have a pot roast?
Yes, we always bring plenty of chuck roasts, which are perfect for pot roast.

How do you keep the meat frozen at the market?
Arlin wired our trailer to use a generator or plug directly into outlets at the market, which keeps the freezers at -16°F. That way you don’t have to worry about getting your beef home.

Do you take cards at the market?
We accept cards, Google Pay, Apple Pay, and cash at both the market and the General Store.

We love the Perry Farmers Market and the community we’ve found there. Whether you’re shopping for your favorite roast, stocking up on ground beef, or just curious about how our ranch works, stop by and say hello. Find us every Saturday from 9–1 at 801 Main Street, Perry, Georgia.
